This is a 24 x 18 acrylic (impasto) on canvas. Playing with the dramatic light in the doorway.

Is that what gives it the texture or the richness of the colors?

Yeah-I drew it out and then just put an inch of straight from the tube color in the spots=kinda like a paint by number but with thick ass paint:)

Hey thanks for your kindness on the painting!! I applied the acrylic paint thick and un-watered down ,with just a small brush..I just started layering in tiny areas with alot of paint and did it in sections..I used ALOT of paint though-That thing was HEAVY once it dried;) !!! Good luck with your Impasto adventures and have Fun #1!:)!!!

I broke down and sold it for $200 this summer cause I needed the money-The frame cost $30-the amount of paint{thick impasto} cost $30..I aint complaining-Put it in a juried show-It was overlooked by 7 awards of lesser works-but it sold..to some guy somewhere who enjoys it every day..Thanks for the kindness Bry

I like it. I played with the light for 6 years straight. You can see it in my night paintings of buildings. pigments of paint reflections to reveal what I had seen exspanding through the darkness.

Wow-Thanks for the props big time..Its weird/ ironic because I usually do all these highly detailed complicated funky things and this was my first impasto and its actually liked. I did it for a juried show-{virginia artists2007-Hampton, Virginia} -and i hate to sound like a sell=out, but i said -man, they always pick impasto style stuff for best in shows- because the 'art people' love that type of stuff..so I did it and it was easy- I wont know if they accepted it till july-but they probably will- Maybe ill do more of em..sorry to ramble- Just wanted to note that I dig your style and we have a simular vision as far as the narrative themes of twisted culture/society..It kinda takes alotta guts to break the molds and be unique. Keep on keepin on! and best of luck- Dave.

You deserve the props, and thanks for the vote of confidence from you as well. I've been trying hard for a show in my home town, but surrealism is just too cosmopolitan for people here who appreciate Southwestern style art. I collaborated with another surrealist and we're been accepted for a two-man show at the local university gallery. I'm really happy about that, especially since the University has a far more sophisticated audience than the rest of town. Good luck on being accepted, juried shows are always nerve-wracking. :)

Yeah, I only have ideas on how to expand- and havent gone further as of yet this year because my work and my name is still growing. I got in a local art thing-like an art alliance"group" thing and they all are old "cactus" people- but so what..I pay my yearly dues and they find the gigs- and they cant boot me from their group because im paying them..They find the places to show and I pay to get shown- thats where im still at- and wanna get to where someone represents and pays the fees/ for the prints/ shipping/ wall space/ limo{ha} etc.. I aint paying $100 a month for 13 feet of wall space in a cali gallery-no way..If they dig my stuff like they say-then they should hang it without my $..I aim for some legit representation-local or whatever. I dont have the 20 awesome pieces to fill out a one person show yet but its gunna get there..We'll see what happens in this upcoming remainder of the year. Im super obsessed and motivated, and working really hard at it. Its like One great rock song can change the world-well..one great painting can too- Im gunna pile up my stock like bullets for now- You will be posted/updated on any movements{mostly bowell right now-HA!} and thanks for sharing again and well see what messes we can cause/ create-! Dave

Wow! Our stories coincide quite a bit! I'm also a member of an art organization that consists of retired people who paint the same tired themes over and over. I'm usually the "weird one" in the group when they have shows in the area. A good example is this past February (For the Love of Art month in my hometown) they had a show that consisted of the same droll landscapes and the usual paintings of Native Americans (all technically mediocre and uninspired) and I submitted "The Bottle Babies" (in my gallery) along with an explanation of the painting. It certainly attracted a bit of attention, but it was more likely because it was so obviously different.

It's good that you're motivated to get your art out there. It's a shame that most artists have to rely on people in the business end of art to promote us - being an extremely talented artist does not necessarily mean that fame and fortune will follow. Still, if you're as determined as you sound, I'm sure it will pay off for you - your art is definitely top notch! :)
